Kazakhstan denies reports of US strike on leased Iranian port site
Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Trade and Integration has dismissed media reports alleging that U.S. airstrikes hit territory leased by Kazakhstan at an Iranian port, calling the claims inaccurate.
The denial followed reports in several Kazakh outlets suggesting that a “U.S. airstrike bombed a port recently leased by Kazakhstan.”
According to Caliber.Az, referring to Kazakh media, officials rejected the assertion, stating: “There were no airstrikes on the territory leased by Kazakhstan.”
The clarification comes amid heightened attention to regional security following reported U.S. strikes in Iran, raising concerns over potential risks to Kazakhstan’s overseas logistics infrastructure.
Kazakhstan and Iran previously signed an agreement to develop a Kazakh terminal at Shahid Rajaee Port in Bandar Abbas. Under the deal, Iran is to allocate land for the construction and future operation of the facility.
The project is part of Kazakhstan’s broader efforts to expand trade routes and logistics capacity through the Persian Gulf, though authorities indicated that the leased site has not been affected by any military activity.
