Kazakhstan says WUF13 in Baku to boost Central Asia–South Caucasus ties
The 13th session of the World Urban Forum (WUF13), scheduled to take place in Baku on May 17–22, 2026, will serve as an important event for strengthening cooperation between the countries of Central Asia and the South Caucasus, Kazakhstan’s Foreign Ministry told Report.
“Kazakhstan views WUF13 as an important platform for participating in multilateral discussions within the UN system, exchanging experience and best practices in sustainable urban development, and engaging with international partners, regional countries, and specialised UN agencies,” the ministry stated.
The Foreign Ministry emphasised that the Forum provides an opportunity to discuss the strengthening of bilateral and multilateral relations, implement previously reached agreements, and develop practical steps for their execution.
“We consider the holding of WUF13 in Baku a significant event for advancing cooperation between Central Asian and South Caucasus countries. The Forum creates additional opportunities for exchanging advanced practices in urban planning, digitalisation of services, and improving the quality of life,” the ministry added.
The ministry also noted that preparations for the Forum are being carried out in close coordination with Azerbaijan’s Foreign Ministry, the Azerbaijani Embassy in Kazakhstan, and UN-Habitat.
“At the Forum, together with relevant government bodies and local executive authorities, we are working on presenting Kazakhstan’s national initiatives in sustainable urban development. We also note that in July 2025, the first National Urban Forum of Kazakhstan was held in Kyzylorda, and its outcomes are planned to be presented at the international WUF13 platform,” the ministry said.
