Kazakhstan to open international university in Almaty In partnership with US university
A new international university, the University of Innovation and Technology (InnoTech), will open in Almaty as part of a partnership between Arizona State University, Q Group, and Kazakhstan’s Ministry of Science and Higher Education, Caliber.Az reports, citing Kazakh media.
The university’s city campus in Almaty’s business district is expected to open in 2026, while a larger innovation-style campus modelled after American universities is planned for 2028.
InnoTech aims to train specialists for the digital economy, promote innovation, and help retain talented young people within the country.
Each year, more than 90,000 Kazakh students travel abroad to obtain internationally recognised degrees. The new university is intended to offer a world-class education within Kazakhstan as an alternative.
The official agreement on the project was signed during a meeting of Central Asian and U.S. leaders in the C5+1 format, attended by Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev.
Arizona State University has been ranked the most innovative university in the United States by U.S. News & World Report for more than ten consecutive years and currently has over 181,000 students.
