Kremlin denies Ukraine's accusations of Maidan-3 coup Citing tensions in Kyiv

28 February 2024 16:45

Russian President's Spokesperson Dmitry Peskov has said that tensions in Kyiv were brewing from within.

He made the remarks commenting on Ukraine's accusations of trying to organise the "Maidan-3" operation, according to Moscow-based Kommersant newspaper.

"There are many different views in Ukraine, regarding elections, continuing to legitimise the leadership and so on. There's no need for help here. The processes of upheaval are brewing on their own from within," Dmitry Peskov said at a press conference.

On February 27, the Ukrainian Intelligence Committee said that as part of Operation Maidan-3, Russia would question the legitimacy of decisions taken after the presidential term expired.

According to the Committee, the Russian security services plan to "shake up" the situation in Kyiv by mid-June. At that point, Russia will be ready to attack Ukrainian forces in the east.

The president's office has prepared the text of an appeal to Ukraine's Constitutional Court regarding the legitimacy of Volodymyr Zelenskyy's tenure as head of state after 20 May, the local weekly Zerkalo Nedeli reported on February 27.
