Peskov: Kremlin seeks pragmatic relations with Hungary’s new government
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov has stated Russia respects the choice of the Hungarian people and expects to maintain pragmatic contacts with the country’s new leadership.
Peskov said that the Kremlin is interested in maintaining good relations with Hungary and all other European countries, despite what he described as a lack of reciprocity at present, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“We are interested in building good relations with Hungary, as with all European countries. We know that, unfortunately, it is not yet possible to speak of reciprocity with regard to European countries, but Russia remains open to dialogue,” Peskov added.
According to him, it is necessary to be patient and observe the actions of Hungary’s new leadership.
Peskov also stressed that the outcome of Hungary’s elections will not affect the course of the conflict in Ukraine, as these processes are viewed as separate.
“I do not think this has any bearing on the prospects for the development of the Russian-Ukrainian conflict. These are probably different processes, so I do not see any connection here,” the Kremlin representative noted.
In Hungary’s recent election, the opposition Tisza Party secured victory. Its leader, Péter Magyar, said he would restore Hungary’s full participation in the European Union and NATO.
