Moscow reaffirms autonomy in Syria relations, eyes deeper ties with Kazakhstan
Russia is building its relations with Syria’s new leadership independently of any agreements reached between Damascus and Washington, Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov told reporters.
Peskov stated that Moscow does not view the recent meeting between Syria’s Transitional President Ahmed al-Sharaa and US President Donald Trump as a factor that could complicate Russian–Syrian dialogue, Caliber.Az reports, citing Russian media.
“I don’t think these are interconnected elements,” he said, responding to a question about potential challenges in bilateral relations following al-Sharaa’s talks with Trump in Washington.
The spokesman emphasized that Moscow maintains direct and constructive engagement with Syria’s new leadership. “We are developing our relations with Syria’s new leadership. You know that al-Sharaa recently paid a very substantive and successful visit to Moscow, during which he held lengthy and meaningful talks with President Putin,” Peskov added.

Turning to regional diplomacy, Peskov also commented on preparations for Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev’s upcoming visit to Moscow. Speaking at a briefing, he said that all aspects of cooperation between Russia and Kazakhstan will be discussed in detail during Tokayev’s talks with President Putin,.
According to Peskov, trade and economic cooperation between the two nations is “multifaceted.” He added, “All areas of cooperation will be discussed in detail, as they are all mutually beneficial — including gas projects, trilateral cooperation, natural gas supplies, and other topics that will be on the agenda.”
Tokayev is scheduled to pay a working visit to Russia on November 11–12. During the trip, the two leaders are expected to sign a declaration on a comprehensive strategic partnership, marking another step in the deepening of Russian–Kazakh relations.
