Official: CSTO chairmanship to pass from Kyrgyzstan to Russia

25 November 2025 12:54

Kyrgyzstan’s Collective Security Treaty Organization (CSTO) chairmanship is set to pass to Russia, Sagynbek Abdumutalip, head of the foreign policy department of the Kyrgyz presidential administration, announced.

The next session of the Collective Security Council of the CSTO will be held in Bishkek by President of the Kyrgyz Republic Sadyr Japarov, in his capacity as chairman, Caliber.Az reports via Kyrgyz media.

The event will take place on November 26-27 in the capital and will become a key event of the final stage of Kyrgyzstan’s chairmanship in the CSTO.

Leaders of the organisation’s member states will attend the session, including Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko, Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev, Russian President Vladimir Putin, and Tajik President Emomali Rahmon.

More than ten decisions are planned to be signed following the session, aimed at further strengthening collective defence mechanisms, improving cooperation among member countries on security issues, and expanding cooperation in the military-political sphere.

Sagynbek Abdumutalip stated that the passing of the CSTO chairmanship to Russia in 2026 will ensure continuity and further development of joint initiatives within the organisation.
