Pashinyan hails Trump Route as gateway to lasting peace in South Caucasus
Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has voiced optimism over the proposed Trump Route initiative, describing it as a breakthrough framework capable of aligning the interests of Armenia, the United States, and potentially Azerbaijan, while opening a new chapter for long-term peace and stability in the South Caucasus.
Speaking at a conference in Yerevan attended by the ambassadors of the United States and the European Union, Pashinyan outlined the key provisions of the document governing the project’s implementation, Caliber.Az reports, citing Armenian media.
Earlier, Armenia’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs released an official document detailing the roadmap for the initiative titled The Trump Route for International Peace and Prosperity (TRIPP). The framework was unveiled following talks in Washington between Armenian Foreign Minister Ararat Mirzoyan and US Secretary of State Marco Rubio.
While noting that Baku has yet to issue an official response, Pashinyan said he believes the proposed formula is fully compatible with Azerbaijan’s interests. He expressed confidence that the realization of the project would open the way to long-term peace and stability across the region.
“Even today, the region constitutes a significantly more secure environment, particularly against the backdrop of ongoing global developments,” Pashinyan said, adding that Armenia’s surrounding security landscape has never been as stable throughout its history.
The prime minister also stressed that the project’s progress was driven in large part by the personal involvement and commitment of US President Donald Trump, whom he described as playing a decisive role in advancing the initiative.
On August 8, 2025 in Washington DC, the President of the United States witnessed the Prime Minister of Armenia and the President of Azerbaijan sign the Joint Declaration, which established a basis for opening communications for intra-state, bilateral, and international transportation. This TRIPP Implementation Framework (TIF) outlines in further detail how the TRIPP will be established and furthers the goals of the Joint Declaration.
The TRIPP is intended to establish unimpeded, multimodal transit connectivity, contributing to regional peace, stability, and integration on the basis of respect for sovereignty, territorial integrity, and jurisdiction of the states. While connecting the main part of Azerbaijan and its Nakhchivan Autonomous Republic and creating a vital link in the Trans-Caspian Trade Route, it is expected to generate reciprocal benefits for international and intra-state connectivity for Armenia.
