Pashinyan urges Armenians to “protect peace” ahead of elections

20 April 2026 14:16

Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan has called on Armenians to “protect peace” ahead of the upcoming June 7 elections, presenting the Civil Contract party’s platform and outlining priorities for 2026–2030.

In a video address published via his Facebook account, the minister stressed that the current peace remains “small and vulnerable,” urging voters to take responsibility by supporting the party at the polls.

According to Pashinyan, the ideological foundation of the program is based on the concept of a “Real Armenia” and a broader strategy of economic and institutional transformation.

“At the upcoming June 7 elections, we have a task together with you that must be accomplished. We must protect peace, which is still very fragile, still vulnerable, and requires our daily care.

On June 7, come to the polling stations and become the owners of peace by voting for the Civil Contract party,” Pashinyan said.

According to him, one of the key priorities for 2026–2030 is the institutionalisation of peace between Armenia and Azerbaijan. He said this process began in 2024 with the delimitation and demarcation of the state border in the Tavush region, as well as with the signing and ratification of regulations governing the joint work of Armenian and Azerbaijani delimitation commissions.

He added that the process continued on August 8, 2025, with the preliminary signing of an agreement on the establishment of peace and interstate relations between the two countries, along with the Washington Declaration confirming principles of peace and the unblocking of transport infrastructure.

“The priority steps for further institutionalising peace are as follows:

1 – Continuing the delimitation process.

2 – Implementation of the ‘Crossroads of Peace’ (TRIPP) project in line with the implementation framework adopted by the governments of Armenia and the United States on August 8, 2025, in the Washington Declaration, and on January 14, 2026, which will lead to the full unblocking of regional communications.

The next step in the institutionalisation of peace is the final signing and ratification of the previously initialled Agreement on the Establishment of Peace and Interstate Relations between the Republic of Armenia and the Republic of Azerbaijan, as well as the further implementation of the steps envisaged therein,” Pashinyan added.

He also stressed that the next stage would be the final signing and ratification of the previously initialled peace agreement between Armenia and Azerbaijan, followed by the implementation of its provisions.

“The listed steps on institutionalising peace are not exhaustive. Contacts between civil society representatives, business communities, bilateral trade, political, cultural, and humanitarian dialogue — all these are important tools for institutionalising peace, and the Civil Contract party will encourage and support increased activity in these areas within the context of Armenian-Azerbaijani relations,” PM stated.
