Five terrorists from the PKK/YPG have surrendered to the Turkish Armed Forces in the Claw-Lock (Pençe-Kilit) operation zone over the past two weeks, security sources said.

Security sources stated that the terrorist had been without food for 20 days and, upon surrendering, was offered water and biscuits by the Turkish soldiers. The soldiers also promised a medical examination to ensure the individual’s well-being.
In interviews, the terrorists who surrendered expressed their disillusionment with the PKK/YPG organization, revealing the hardships they faced while in the group. They stated that while the so-called leaders of the terrorist organization were living in comfort, the fighters were left to endure hunger and poverty. These testimonies provide further insight into the internal struggles within the organization, which has long been fighting against the Turkish state.
The surrender of these individuals is seen as a significant blow to the PKK/YPG, as it underscores the weakening morale among its ranks. The ongoing Pençe-Kilit operation, which aims to target and neutralize terrorist elements in northern Iraq, continues to show progress, with more individuals choosing to leave the group as it faces mounting pressure from Turkish forces.
In recent development, Abdullah Öcalan, leader of the banned Kurdish insurgent group PKK, has called for the group to lay down arms and disband, marking a significant shift after more than four decades of conflict with the Turkish state. In a statement read by deputies of the pro-Kurdish Peoples' Freedom and Democracy Party (DEM) in Istanbul, Öcalan declared that the PKK had "completed its life" and urged its dissolution.
He emphasized the historical alliance between Turks and Kurds, highlighting the mutual bond that has existed for over 1,000 years. Öcalan’s statement, which follows a meeting with DEM officials, comes amid a broader political shift in Türkiye, with President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and other political leaders showing positive responses to the call for peace.
Despite being imprisoned since 1999, Öcalan remains influential within the PKK. The call for disarmament could bring an end to the decades-long conflict that has claimed tens of thousands of lives, though challenges remain, as some factions within the PKK may resist the decision.
The PKK, founded by Öcalan in 1978, has been labelled a terrorist organization by Türkiye and its allies. Previous peace efforts have faltered, raising questions about the future of the ongoing peace process.
Note that, PKK has carried out numerous attacks targeting civilians, military personnel, and infrastructure, resulting in over 40,000 deaths, including women, children, and the elderly.
Originally seeking an independent Kurdish state or autonomous Kurdish regions within Türkiye, the organization has shifted to asymmetric tactics such as bombings, assassinations, and ambushes.
