Political analyst criticises Armenia's inadequate defence system

15 February 2024 13:10

Political analyst Tigran Grigoryan, in an interview with Armenian media, made some critical remarks about the incompetence of Armenia's defence system.

"A state that has a normal defence system cannot send a 67-year-old man (a militant of the Yerkrapah terrorist organisation - ed.) to the front line. And all this is happening against the backdrop of constant boasting about the comprehensive reforms being carried out in the army, the armed forces and the security system as a whole," he said, according to Caliber.Az.

"On the one hand they say that a new system is being introduced in our army, on the other hand, it turns out that the most important parts of the front line are manned by people who should have been retired long ago, even according to civil law. The argument that these people made a voluntary decision to be useful to the state does not work in this case. Even in civilian life, certain standards have to be met in order to be able to provide various services.

The front line is not a sanatorium where people can go in voluntarily and serve there if they don't meet a certain set of requirements. The problem here is having a defensive front line. It is clear that a 67-year-old man will not be able to provide such border protection under any circumstances. This is a serious problem. It is understandable that after the defeat in Karabakh, the border has become much longer and there is a lack of human resources, but even under these conditions some standards must be met," the political analyst said.
