Political stunt cut from Armenia’s Eurovision act after Azerbaijan raises alarm VIDEO

17 May 2025 09:05

On May 15, the second semifinal of the Eurovision Song Contest 2025 took place, and one of the most striking developments was a significant change in the staging of Armenia’s performance.

Initially, the Armenian act featured two large stage structures—one resembling the outline of Armenia, and the other depicting territories that included Azerbaijan’s Karabakh region and the seven surrounding districts, Caliber.Az reports, citing Musavat.

During the original staging, these two structures were “joined” as part of the performance, and the Armenian singer climbed atop them to emotionally portray a “victory”—a gesture widely viewed as carrying an overt political message.

In response, Nurlana Jafarova, head of Azerbaijan’s Eurovision delegation, condemned the scene and stated that action would be taken over the provocation.

“Do you really think we could ignore such a serious scandal? The second semifinal will be excellent,” Jafarova declared.

Indeed, during the May 15 semifinal, viewers noticed that Armenia’s performance had been altered: the singer’s armoured costume had been modified, and the controversial stage structures were completely removed.
