Rome emerges as Baku’s top trade partner in 2025, state committee says
Azerbaijan’s foreign trade in January–November 2025 was dominated by Italy, which emerged as the country’s largest trading partner with a total turnover of $11.242 billion, accounting for 25.21 per cent of Azerbaijan’s overall external trade, the State Customs Committee said.
Trade with Italy expanded by 9 per cent compared with the same period in 2024, reinforcing Rome’s position at the top of Azerbaijan’s trading partners, Caliber.Az reports.
Türkiye ranked second, with bilateral trade reaching $5.201 billion, representing 11.66 per cent of total turnover. However, this figure marked a 7.5 per cent year-on-year decline.
Russia placed third, as trade turnover increased by 3 per cent to $4.508 billion, accounting for 10.11 per cent of Azerbaijan’s foreign trade.
Among the remaining countries in the top ten, China recorded trade of $4.214 billion, reflecting a robust 24 per cent increase. Trade with the United States amounted to $1.365 billion, down 9.4 per cent, while Germany registered $1.298 billion, a 9 per cent decline. The United Kingdom posted a notable 1.6-fold increase, with trade totaling $1.041 billion.
Further down the list, trade with Australia stood at $894.5 million, representing a 26 per cent decrease, while Switzerland saw a sharp rise of 2.1 times to $890.3 million. Trade with the Czech Republic reached $807.6 million, down 22.4 per cent year on year.
Overall, the State Customs Committee’s data show that Azerbaijan’s total foreign trade turnover in January–November 2025 increased by 3.4 per cent compared with the same period of 2024, reaching $44.589 billion.
As previously reported, Azerbaijan’s foreign trade turnover in 2024 amounted to $47.612 billion, representing a 7 per cent decline from 2023.
