Russia affirms readiness to cooperate in investigation of Aktau plane crash
Russia has expressed its willingness to collaborate with Kazakhstan in the ongoing investigation into the tragic crash of an Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane near Aktau.
Dmitry Yadrov, the head of Russia's Federal Air Transport Agency (Rosaviation), stated that Russia is fully prepared to assist in determining the causes of the incident, Caliber.Az reports.
Yadrov highlighted the challenging situation in the Grozny area at the time of the crash, noting the activation of the "Carpet" plan, which was implemented in response to potential Ukrainian drone attacks. Additionally, dense fog at Grozny airport further complicated the situation, making landing attempts difficult.
Yadrov explained that the aircraft commander had made two unsuccessful attempts to land at Grozny airport before being offered alternative options. After these failed attempts, the decision was made to divert to Aktau airport, where the tragedy ultimately occurred.
The Russian authorities have emphasized their commitment to transparency and cooperation with Kazakhstan as the investigation continues.
On December 25, an Embraer aircraft operated by Azerbaijan Airlines en route from Baku to Grozny crashed near Aktau, Kazakhstan. Of the 62 passengers aboard—37 Azerbaijanis, 16 Russians, 6 Kazakh citizens, and 3 Kyrgyz citizens—38 people lost their lives. Twenty-nine passengers, including three children, survived the accident.
