Russia's FSB foils sabotage plot on railway in Altai VIDEO
Russian Federal Security Service (FSB) officers have prevented an attempted sabotage on a railway in the Altai region.
“The Federal Security Service stopped an attempt at railway sabotage in Altai, planned by members of a terrorist organisation banned in Russia under the coordination of Ukrainian intelligence services,” the FSB’s Center for Public Relations said, TASS reports.
The suspects, both local residents, were reportedly recruited via the messaging app Telegram by a representative of the terrorist group, with the promise of financial compensation for carrying out subversive-terrorist activities. Investigators also found illegally acquired firearms in their possession, the Russian Investigative Committee noted.
The FSB’s Altai branch has opened a criminal case under Article 281 of the Russian Criminal Code (sabotage). Meanwhile, the Investigative Committee is investigating additional charges under Articles 317 (assault on a law enforcement officer) and 222 (illegal acquisition, transfer, sale, storage, transport, or carrying of firearms, major parts, or ammunition).
