Russia says it will "comprehensively develop" relations with Azerbaijan
The Kremlin said on Tuesday, July 14, that differences between Russia and Azerbaijan over the war in Ukraine should not affect bilateral relations, emphasising a “pragmatic approach” to cooperation.
Kremlin spokesman Dmitry Peskov acknowledged that the two countries hold differing positions on the conflict but said Moscow does not see this as grounds for limiting engagement.
“There are a number of countries with which we have close relations and which share a position — a position with which we categorically disagree. Yes, this is a subject of our disagreements,” Peskov said at a briefing.
“At the same time, we believe that this is not a reason for this issue to cast any shadow over our bilateral relations; here we adhere to a pragmatic approach,” he added.
Peskov said Russia intends to deepen ties with Azerbaijan despite these differences.
“We believe that we must comprehensively develop our relations, especially with a country like Azerbaijan,” he said.
