Russian air defence downs 18 Ukrainian drones
In the early hours of October 22, Russian air defence forces successfully intercepted and destroyed 18 Ukrainian drones across five regions of Russia.
The attacks were predominantly focused on the border areas, Caliber.Az reports, citing the Russian media.
"Overnight, an attempt by the Kyiv regime to conduct a terrorist attack against facilities on Russian soil using fixed-wing UAVs was thwarted. Air defence forces on duty intercepted and downed 18 Ukrainian unmanned aerial vehicles, including 11 over the Rostov Region, four over the Bryansk Region, two over the Kursk Region and one over the Oryol Region," Russian Defence Ministry specified.
Meanwhile, Rostov Region Governor Vasily Golubev stated on his Telegram channel that four drones were destroyed near Novoshakhtinsk and another one near Chaltyr.
Six drones were suppressed by electronic warfare means in the Myasnikovsky district. According to preliminary information, there were no casualties or damage on the ground.
Notably, on October 21 Russia launched multiple waves of drones at Kyiv for the second consecutive night, damaging residential buildings and injuring at least one civilian, according to Ukrainian officials. Reports indicated that a series of explosions were heard throughout the city during the night.
Serhiy Popko, head of Kyiv’s military administration, stated on the Telegram messaging app that around ten drones targeting the city were intercepted in several waves and from various directions.
Additionally, at least 12 people were injured overnight in Ukraine’s Kharkiv region following Russia's attack with guided air bombs, as reported by Ukraine’s national police on Telegram. They noted that several residential buildings sustained damage.
