Russian expert declared internationally wanted after inflammatory remarks against Azerbaijan

19 December 2022 17:37

A Russian citizen Mikhail Aleksandrov, who is known as a leading expert of the Center for Military and Political Studies of the Moscow State Institute of International Relations, Doctor of Law, has been put on the international wanted list after voicing provocative statements against Azerbaijan.

During an audio address to a wide audience on December 13, Aleksandrov, in an attempt to undermine relations between Azerbaijan and Russia, openly called for the "firing of missiles and the complete destruction of the entire oil industry and energy system of Azerbaijan", Caliber.Az reports.

On December 19, Azerbaijan’s prosecutor general initiated criminal proceedings against Mikhail Aleksandrov under Articles 101.2 (open calls to unleash aggressive war through media), 214.2.3 (threats to commit terrorist acts using firearms) and 283.2.1, 283.2.2 (inciting ethnic hatred or enmity using official position) of the Criminal Code of Azerbaijan.

A preliminary investigation was entrusted to the investigation department of the Prosecutor General's Office. In view of sufficient evidence, Aleksandrov has been charged under these articles of the Criminal Code. The court decided to put him on the international wanted list through Interpol (International Criminal Police Organization) channels and to place him under arrest as a precautionary measure.

Requests have also said to be sent to the competent authorities of several partner states to ensure the extradition of the accused if he enters the territory of these countries.
