Russian FM, Azerbaijani ambassador discuss key tasks for 2025 in Moscow along with CIS ambassadors
The Russian Foreign Ministry has stated that Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov and ambassadors from the CIS member states accredited in Russia reviewed last year’s cooperation within the CIS framework on February 3.
Ambassador of Azerbaijan to Russia Rahman Mustafayev also participated in the traditional meeting in Moscow, Caliber.Az reports, citing the ministry.
"Key tasks for 2025 were outlined, including marking the 80th anniversary of the Victory in the Great Patriotic War, a year dedicated to peace and unity in the fight against Nazism. The focus will be on further strengthening foreign policy coordination, enhancing cooperation in trade, economic, and cultural-humanitarian areas, as well as in the field of security," the statement says.
The meeting participants also exchanged views on pressing global and regional issues, including those in the context of implementing the initiative by Russian President Vladimir Putin on the formation of a new architecture for equal and indivisible security in Eurasia.
In October 2024, the Council of Foreign Ministers of the CIS member states adopted a Statement on the Principles of Cooperation in Ensuring Security in Eurasia. The document emphasises that the CIS member states recognize the importance of maintaining and protecting the system of international law, based on the UN Charter, to ensure stability in the Eurasian space. It also stresses the inadmissibility of imposing rules, standards, and norms in international relations without ensuring the equal participation of all interested states in their formulation, and advocates for enhancing the role of the CIS in this process.
The document envisages the consolidation of the international community in seeking collective responses to global and regional security challenges and threats. It emphasises that these responses should be based on political and diplomatic measures aimed at reducing conflict potential by addressing the underlying causes of interstate contradictions.
