Russian intel chief signals hope for future cooperation with Trump administration
Sergei Naryshkin, chief of Russia's Foreign Intelligence Service, stated that, he has not yet had any contact with the incoming administration of US President-elect Donald Trump.
However, Naryshkin expressed optimism about the possibility of establishing cooperation once Trump's team is officially in place, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
In response to a journalist's inquiry, Naryshkin clarified, "I have no [contacts with the future Trump administration]." He further explained that such contacts could only be established after individuals are officially appointed, allowing for potential collaboration thereafter.
Naryshkin's remarks come amid broader geopolitical tensions, particularly related to the ongoing conflict in Ukraine. Earlier, the intelligence chief indicated that Russia was nearing the achievement of its objectives in Ukraine, asserting that the strategic initiative on the frontlines was firmly in the hands of Russian forces. According to Naryshkin, the Ukrainian military was nearing collapse, with the situation on the battlefield shifting against Kyiv.
The potential for future cooperation between the US and Russia remains uncertain, but Naryshkin's comments suggest that Russia is open to dialogue with the new administration once it takes office.
