Russian official criticizes French president’s "detached" statements on peace, military strength
Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova has criticized French President Emmanuel Macron for what she described as contradictory and detached statements regarding Ukraine and nuclear weapons.
Zakharova referred to Macron as a “fabulist,” accusing him of issuing daily remarks that are increasingly disconnected from reality and often contradict his previous statements, Caliber.Az reports citing Russian media.
“These are the kinds of statements that one should ask him about, as every day he makes detached remarks that contradict the previous ones,” Zakharova commented, referring to Macron's latest remarks, which came just before the French leader addressed his fellow citizens.
Zakharova also took issue with Macron’s recent comments about his country’s military strength. The French President claimed that France possessed the “most powerful” army in Europe, a statement that Zakharova noted echoed similar words made by Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, who had previously highlighted the strength of the Ukrainian Armed Forces.
Macron’s latest comments came during another anti-Russian speech in which he discussed the rearmament and global strengthening of Russia's military capabilities.
On March 5, French President Macron initiated a discussion on the use of France's nuclear weapons to defend the entire European Union. According to Macron, peace "cannot be built at any price or under Russian dictate, nor through the surrender of Ukraine."
Macron further stated that Europe should not be dependent on the decisions of either Moscow or Washington. He emphasized that it is Russia that is responsible for the "global conflict in Ukraine."
He characterized Russia as a "threat" to Europe, particularly France, claiming the country posed dangers both in the airspace and across social media platforms. These statements have drawn significant attention amid the ongoing geopolitical tensions between Russia and the West.
