Russian official urges continuation of direct talks with Ukraine
Director of Russia’s Foreign Intelligence Service Sergei Naryshkin has stressed the necessity of maintaining direct negotiations between Russia and Ukraine, highlighting their role in resolving various issues, particularly those of a humanitarian nature.
Naryshkin was asked to evaluate the Ukrainian side’s stance ahead of the upcoming round of talks. He acknowledged the challenges but insisted on the importance of ongoing dialogue, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“No matter their attitude, negotiations must go on. Although it is difficult to speak of significant progress, nevertheless, during each round, a number of issues are resolved, including those related to the humanitarian agenda. This is very important,” he said.
Earlier, Alexey Chepa, First Deputy Chairman of the State Duma Committee on International Affairs, stated that a convergence of Russian and Ukrainian positions on peace memorandums could occur during the third round of Russian-Ukrainian negotiations.
“In my opinion, there should finally be a rapprochement on the issues concerning the memorandums. Without this convergence, it is very difficult to predict the outcome of any such agreement,” he said.
