Russian Railways: Grain shipments to Armenia via Azerbaijan become regular
Rail shipments of grain from Russia to Armenia via a new railway route through Azerbaijan have become regular, Russian Railways announced.
Sergey Pavlov, First Deputy CEO of Russian Railways, stated at a board meeting reviewing the company’s 2025 results that, following the lifting of restrictions on cargo transit to Armenia through Azerbaijan in November 2025, the first grain train in many years had successfully travelled from Russia to Armenia, Caliber.Az reports.
“Deliveries have now become regular. We plan to further develop transportation along this route,” he noted.
Previously, 1,050 tonnes of Russian wheat were shipped to Armenia via Azerbaijan in November 2025 — the first such delivery in 35 years. According to Russian Railways, shipments of other types of cargo will also be explored.
Meanwhile, at the end of January, Armenian Economy Minister Gevorg Papoyan wrote that Yerevan had reached an agreement with Baku on the rail transit of Russian liquefied gas and bitumen through Azerbaijan.
