Russian top diplomat claims Europe pushing for new military bloc
Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov has said that calls are growing within Europe for the creation of a new military bloc, amid what he described as a crisis in NATO.
Speaking at a session of the Council of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Collective Security Treaty Organisation, Lavrov claimed that discussions were intensifying across Europe about forming an alternative alliance involving the European Union, the United Kingdom, Norway and Ukraine, Caliber.Az reports via Russian media.
“In NATO, we are witnessing a crisis. Voices are already being heard, increasingly loudly from various official sources in Europe, that there is a need to assemble a new bloc consisting of the European Union, Britain, Norway and, correctly, Ukraine,” Lavrov said.
He did not specify which European politicians or institutions he was referring to.
