A Russian Su-57 fifth-generation fighter jet crashed in the Moscow region during a training flight on July 23, with the pilot ejecting safely and no casualties reported on the ground, according to Russian media.
The aircraft came down in the Odintsovo urban district of the Moscow region, Kommersant reported, citing a source.
The fighter was not carrying any weapons at the time of the crash, the report said.
The cause of the incident remains under investigation. Russia's Investigative Committee, military experts and a commission from the Ministry of Defence are expected to examine the circumstances surrounding the crash.
The Su-57 is Russia's fifth-generation multirole stealth fighter, developed to replace the ageing Su-27. The aircraft made its maiden flight in January 2010, entered serial production in 2019, and the Russian Aerospace Forces received the first production model in 2020.
