Six detained over incident at Armenian Pashinyan campaign rally
Six of the ten individuals detained in connection with an incident during a campaign rally for Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan’s ruling “Civil Contract” party in Armenia’s Lori region have been arrested.
Earlier, Armenia’s Investigative Committee announced the detention of ten suspects accused of obstructing an election campaign event, allegedly involving supporters of the “Strong Armenia” bloc. A criminal case has been opened under charges related to obstruction of election campaigning, Caliber.Az reports via Armenian media.
Goar Meloyan, a representative of the political party, later claimed that provocateurs had infiltrated the group of supporters during the incident and called for the immediate release of those detained. The Investigative Committee stated that one individual has been placed under house arrest, while no court decision has yet been issued regarding the remaining three detainees.
The incident took place on May 16 in the village of Metsavan in the Tashir consolidated municipality, where supporters of “Strong Armenia” reportedly disrupted a speech by ruling party representatives with loud chants and music.
