St. Maarten activist condemns French colonial control Appeals to Azerbaijan for support
Rhoda Arrindell, a prominent human rights activist and writer from St. Maarten, has strongly criticized France for what she describes as using the people of her country as pawns in a colonial power game.
In a passionate plea for independence, Arrindell highlighted the decades-long struggle against French colonization that has left St. Maarten under the direct governance of Paris, Caliber.Az reports citing local media.
"St. Maarten is a tropical island in the Caribbean, divided between the Netherlands and France," stated Arrindell.
"Our people have endured years of assimilation and cultural pressure imposed by the French government, with all major decisions concerning our education, justice system, healthcare, and more dictated from Paris."
Speaking on behalf of the island's population, Arrindell emphasized the urgent need to break free from what she termed "fictitious colonial rule."
"Colonialism is an injustice," she asserted.
"If we are to secure our future and preserve our freedom, independence is our only viable path forward."
In a surprising move, Arrindell reached out to Azerbaijan, seeking support for St. Maarten's quest for independence.
"We believe that international solidarity is crucial in ending colonial domination," she declared. "We look to the Baku Initiative Group and Azerbaijan for solidarity and support in our struggle for self-determination."
