Three survivors of AZAL plane crash hospitalized in Baku
Three individuals injured in the tragic Azerbaijan Airlines (AZAL) plane crash near Aktau, Kazakhstan, have been transferred to Baku for further treatment.
The injured passengers, who had previously been receiving medical care in Aktau, were moved to Yeni Klinika, a medical facility in the Azerbaijani capital, according to Azerbaijan’s Minister of Health, Teymur Musayev, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
In a statement, Musayev reported that the three patients are currently in the intensive care unit and their condition is stable but of moderate severity. He added that nine other injured passengers had already been discharged from the hospital and sent home following treatment.
According to Vugar Gurbanov, Executive Director of the Azerbaijani Medical Territorial Units Management Union (TƏBİB), the discharged patients are in satisfactory condition. Gurbanov also stated that the three patients recently transferred from Kazakhstan are in stable, moderate condition.
The devastating incident occurred on December 25, when an AZAL passenger plane, en route from Baku to Grozny, crashed near Aktau. Out of the 67 individuals on board, 38 lost their lives, while 29 survived the crash.
In recognition of the courage and sacrifice of the crew members who perished in the disaster, Azerbaijan’s President Ilham Aliyev has posthumously awarded the title of National Hero of Azerbaijan to the late crew members—Igor Ivanovich Kshnyakin, Alexander Georgievich Kalyaninov, and Hokume Jalil gizi Aliyeva. Meanwhile, the surviving crew members, Zulfugar Sardar oglu Asadov and Aydan Vagif gizi Rahimli, have been honoured with the 1st degree "Rashadat" order for their bravery.
Preliminary investigations indicate that the crash may have been caused by external physical and technical interference, although further details are yet to be confirmed.
Authorities continue to investigate the cause of the incident, while the nation mourns the loss of those who perished in the crash.
