Tokayev hails Kazakhstan’s progress, calls independence "nation’s sacred duty"
On October 24, Kazakhstan President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev delivered a speech at a solemn ceremony dedicated to Republic Day.
He began his address with heartfelt congratulations, noting that it has become a fine tradition to honour the nation’s most distinguished citizens at Akorda on the eve of Republic Day – the country’s main holiday, Caliber.Az reports, citing the press service of the President of Kazakhstan (Akorda).
The president reminded the audience that this year marks 35 years since the adoption of the Declaration of Sovereignty of Kazakhstan — “the day when historical justice triumphed, and the banner of Independence soared high.” He stressed that independence is the nation’s highest value and the sacred duty of every citizen to preserve it.
Tokayev said Kazakhstan has strengthened its unity, secured international recognition, and “overcome all challenges with dignity.” Since 2019, he added, large-scale political and constitutional reforms have expanded Parliament’s powers, increased government accountability, and created new institutions such as the Constitutional Court and the Human Rights Commissioner. Direct elections for local akims have also been introduced.
He reaffirmed the principle of “A strong President – an influential Parliament – an accountable Government,” noting that such transformations are unprecedented in the region. Despite global crises, Kazakhstan has maintained economic stability and continued reforms.
Since 2019, the country’s economy has grown by 16%, reaching nearly $291 billion, with GDP per capita up 47% to $14,400. Foreign reserves total $58 billion, and trade turnover has risen 83% to $142 billion.
Priority is now given to diversification and transport development, Tokayev said, highlighting the launch of the Dostyk–Mointy railway, the construction or repair of 13,000 km of roads, and 36 new international air routes. The manufacturing sector grew 7.5%, and SMEs now make up 40% of the economy.
Tokayev emphasised that agricultural output had increased 2.5 times, with 20 million tons of grain harvested, noting that Kazakhstan’s granaries are full, its economy is growing, and the country continues to gain international respect.
