The inaugural meeting of the ministers of industry, science, technology, and innovation from the Organization of Turkic States was held in Istanbul, with Azerbaijan represented by Economy Minister Mikail Jabbarov.

Türkiye's Minister of Industry and Technology, Mehmet Fatih Kacır, welcomed the attendees and expressed hope for productive discussions that would enhance future relations among member states, Azerbaijani Economy Ministry told Caliber.Az

Secretary General of the Organization of Turkic States, Kubanychbek Omuraliyev, highlighted the significance of cooperation, citing the historical and cultural bonds among member nations. He expressed confidence that this first meeting would be pivotal in strengthening interactions.

Minister Jabbarov thanked Türkiye for its warm hospitality and emphasized that increased collaboration among Turkic states would drive prosperity, economic growth, and sustainable development. He reaffirmed Azerbaijan's commitment to cooperation within the Turkic framework and support for integration efforts in the Turkic world. Jabbarov pointed out that mutually beneficial economic activities are foundational to Turkic cooperation.

The meeting aims to enhance the non-oil industry, promote trade and investment, support small and medium-sized enterprises, and adopt modern technologies. It also seeks to evaluate opportunities for boosting initiatives in science, innovation, and digitalization.

In discussing Azerbaijan’s vision for the future, Jabbarov referenced the document "Azerbaijan 2030: National Priorities for Socio-Economic Development," which identifies "Clean Environment and Green Growth" as a priority. The plan emphasizes environmentally friendly technologies, waste recycling, and restoring polluted areas, alongside initiatives for implementing green technologies. New industrial zones are set to be established in areas liberated from occupation, with incentives for entrepreneurs and the designation of these regions as green energy zones.

Minister Jabbarov also mentioned global initiatives from Moldova, which is set to host COP29, the 29th session of the UN Climate Change Conference, in November.

Investment was highlighted as crucial for economic development and macroeconomic stability within the Organization of Turkic States. The establishment of the Turkic Investment Fund aims to promote economic growth among member countries, while bilateral investment funds between Azerbaijan and Uzbekistan, as well as Azerbaijan and Kyrgyzstan, are expected to bolster economic development and improve welfare levels.

Furthermore, Jabbarov stressed the importance of creating Resource Centers for green small and medium-sized enterprises and research and development. He provided insights into institutional platforms designed to enhance access to technology, knowledge, and financial resources.

The proposal to host the next meeting of the ministers in Azerbaijan was accepted by the participating countries.

The meeting concluded with representatives from member states delivering speeches and adopting a Joint Declaration outlining the results of the first meeting of the ministers of industry, science, technology, and innovation of the Organization of Turkic States.
