Turkish defence chief visits Georgia for trilateral meeting

10 September 2024 09:47

Turkish National Defence Minister Yaşar Güler has arrived in Georgia for an official visit, according to a statement by the Turkish Ministry of Defence shared on social platform X.

The visit comes after a meeting of the Turkish Cabinet of Ministers and marks Güler's participation in the 11th Trilateral Meeting of Defence Ministers from Turkey, Azerbaijan, and Georgia, as per Caliber.Az.

This annual summit aims to discuss joint military cooperation and regional security among the three nations.

Upon his arrival, Güler was received by Georgia's Deputy Defence Minister Paata Patiashvili, Turkish Ambassador to Tbilisi Ali Kaan Orbay, and other senior Georgian officials, signalling the importance of the visit.

Simultaneously, Azerbaijani Defence Minister Colonel General Zakir Hasanov is also in Georgia for the same meeting. Set to take place in the coastal city of Batumi, the 11th Trilateral Defence Ministers' Meeting will focus on advancing military cooperation in both bilateral and trilateral formats. Discussions will centre on regional security challenges, defence strategies, and further initiatives to enhance joint military capabilities.

The trilateral partnership between Türkiye, Azerbaijan, and Georgia is seen as a key mechanism for ensuring regional stability, especially given the geopolitical complexities of the South Caucasus. This meeting serves as a platform for the three nations to align their defence policies, strengthen operational coordination, and address emerging security issues of mutual concern.
