Turkish envoy in Cairo upbeat about normalised ties with Egypt

Türkiye’s charge d'affaires in Cairo, Ambassador Salih Mutlu Shen has said that Turkish-Egyptian relations have normalised.

The ambassador noted that important steps have been taken to normalise relations and restore trust between the two countries, NTV reports.

Presidents Erdogan and Sisi will meet in Ankara or Cairo before the end of this year, he said.

"The two fraternal countries (Türkiye-Egypt) and their peoples wish to cooperate in all areas in the future. There were some obstacles between the two countries, but we managed to overcome them. Relations between Türkiye and Egypt have normalised. At the moment, we are talking about the possibilities of official cooperation, where we will be able to work in the interests of the peoples of the two countries in various fields, such as economy, tourism and culture. Therefore, the situation between the two countries is moving into the future with a high level of trust and respect," Shen said.

He said that both countries have attached great importance to economic relations over the past 10 years and measures are being taken to ensure that the political situation does not affect economic relations.

"The volume of trade has reached $9.7 billion. At the moment, if there is political will between the two countries’ leaders, the business community will also cooperate more in the field of trade. I can say that the annual volume of trade may increase to $20 billion in the medium term. I also have to emphasize the fact that Egypt's largest export market is Türkiye. At the same time, Türkiye is the number one buyer of Egyptian gas," the ambassador said.
