Turkish, French leaders discuss bilateral ties, regional issues in phone call
President of Türkiye Recep Tayyip Erdoğan held a phone conversation with his French counterpart, Emmanuel Macron, during which they discussed bilateral ties, as well as key regional and global developments.
According to the Turkish Presidency, Erdoğan emphasised that strengthening dialogue between Türkiye and France would have a positive impact on relations. He highlighted the potential for cooperation in multiple sectors, particularly in the defence industry, Caliber.Az reports via the Turkish Presidency’s Directorate of Communications.
During the conversation, President Erdoğan welcomed the European Union’s decision to suspend sanctions on Syria, describing it as a highly appropriate step. He underlined the necessity of fully lifting these sanctions in the near future and reaffirmed Türkiye’s continued support for Syria.
Addressing the ongoing conflict between Hamas and Israel, Erdoğan stressed the importance of maintaining the ceasefire and initiating efforts towards a lasting resolution.
The discussion between the two leaders comes amid heightened geopolitical tensions, with both countries seeking to navigate complex regional challenges while exploring avenues for enhanced cooperation.
