Turkish leader warns of forces trying to disrupt relations between government, society
Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan has warned that certain forces are trying to undermine the relationship between the government and society within the country.
The president gave this warning while speaking at the ruling AK party's group meeting on March 26 in the Turkish Grand National Assembly, Caliber.Az reports via Turkish media.
In his speech, he spoke of the ongoing investigation against some members of the CHP party in relation to acts of corruption.
Erdoğan emphasized that positions of power are temporary, but the most important thing is to win people's hearts. "While we strive to strengthen our ties with society, some forces are attempting to weaken them. Some are troubled by the fact that we are exposing the true motives of those who, hiding behind various masks, exploit our country for their own interests. Hostile circles against Türkiye and its people have used these forces for their own purposes," he urged.
Mass protests have erupted across the country in recent days following the arrest of Istanbul Mayor Ekrem Imamoğlu, who has been nominated as the presidential candidate to represent the CHP opposition party despite being imprisoned at the moment. Several arrests have been made by the Turkish police while the majority of demonstrations have remained peaceful.
