Turkish, Syrian presidents may meet in Moscow in August
The first meeting between Turkish and Syrian Presidents Recep Tayyip Erdogan and Bashar al-Assad since 2011 may take place in Moscow.
The talks could tentatively take place in August, Caliber.Az reports, citing Turkish media sources.
According to the sources, Iraqi Prime Minister Mohammed Al-Sudani may be invited to the meeting, while Iran is unlikely to be invited.
The withdrawal of Turkish troops from northern Syria will be discussed later, while bilateral trade issues will be one of the main issues at the first meeting.
Turkish authorities have not yet commented on this information.
Meanwhile, spokesman for the Turkish oppositional People's Republican Party Deniz Yucel said that the head of the Party Ozgur Ozel will meet with Syrian President Bashar al-Assad in the coming days to discuss the normalisation of bilateral relations.
"This topic [of the meeting] is on our agenda. Necessary contacts and work are being carried out through diplomatic channels. We can report that our general chairman Ozgur Ozel will meet with Syrian President [Bashar] Assad in the coming days. However, the date, place and time of this meeting have not been determined yet," the party spokesman said.
The Party leader had previously announced his intention to pay a visit to Damascus in July to discuss normalising relations with Türkiye and the return home of Syrian refugees.
