Türkiye announces coordination with Azerbaijan on border opening with Armenia "Fair behavior of Armenia is key"
Türkiye has declared a coordinated approach with Azerbaijan regarding the potential opening of the border with Armenia.
Mesut Hakkı Çaşın, a member of the Security and Foreign Policy Council under the President of Türkiye and professor at Yedditepe University, shared this insight with the Turkish bureau of Report during the III Diplomatic Forum in Antalya.
He noted that this issue was widely discussed within the forum.
Çaşın emphasized that any progress towards the opening of the border between Türkiye and Armenia hinges on fair behavior from Armenia towards Azerbaijan. He highlighted that Turkey and Azerbaijan jointly decide on matters related to stability in the South Caucasus and the prospect of opening the border.
“Armenia is further complicating its position by responding to provocations from the West, in particular from France. One of the most important conditions for opening borders with Türkiye is an objective attitude towards Azerbaijan. Because Ankara, together with Baku, makes decisions on stability in the South Caucasus, as well as on the issue of opening the border,” he said.
Çaşın underscored the significance of an objective attitude from Armenia towards Azerbaijan as a crucial condition for potential border openings.
The declaration reinforces the collaborative decision-making process between Türkiye and Azerbaijan in addressing regional stability and border-related matters in the South Caucasus.
