Türkiye calls Israel’s interception of Gaza aid flotilla “act of piracy”
The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Türkiye has described Israel’s intervention against the Global Sumud Flotilla as an “act of piracy,” following the interception of vessels carrying humanitarian aid bound for the Gaza Strip.
In a written statement, the ministry said that the actions of Israeli forces against the flotilla in international waters constitute “acts of piracy.”
Ankara stated that the attack on vessels engaged in a humanitarian mission raises concerns under international law and violates the principle of freedom of navigation.
The Turkish side added that Israel’s actions effectively target humanitarian initiatives related to the situation in Gaza and called on the international community to deliver a coordinated response.
The statement also noted that Türkiye is cooperating with other countries regarding the rescue of individuals who were on board the vessels, including Turkish citizens, and that all necessary measures are being taken.
Earlier, on April 30, reports said that Israeli forces had intercepted the aid flotilla in international waters near Crete.
