During the discussion, Ambassador Akgün reiterated Türkiye's unwavering support and solidarity with Palestine.
Notably, Birol Akgün officially began his tenure as Türkiye’s Ambassador to Azerbaijan on February 1, 2025, following the presentation of his credentials to Azerbaijani Foreign Minister Jeyhun Bayramov the previous day. Akgün's appointment was confirmed by Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan on January 10, 2025.
Before taking up this diplomatic post, Akgün led the Turkish Educational Foundation Maarif Vakfı. His appointment comes after the completion of Cahit Bağçı's term as ambassador, which ended on December 14, 2024. Bağçı was recognized for his efforts in strengthening Türkiye-Azerbaijan relations.
Akgün’s arrival comes as relations between the two nations remain robust, with expectations that his tenure will continue to build on this strong bilateral partnership.
