The defence and aerospace sector's exports in September 2023 hit $430.2 million, showing an increase of 158.9 per cent compared to the same month of the previous year. The sector's nine-month export target from January to September 2023, with a year-end export target of $6 billion, totalled $3 billion 839 million.
To meet the year-end export target, the sector must export an average of $720 million per month in the remaining 3 months of the year. The sector is expected to break a new monthly export record in the remaining months of the year.
UAV exports are at the forefront of the sector
Armed drones and ammunition exports remain at the forefront of Turkish defence and aerospace industry exports. So far, BAYKAR has exported Bayraktar TB2 drones to 32 countries and AKINCI to 8 countries.
On the other hand, TUSAŞ has exported ANKA and AKSUNGUR UAVs to at least 7 countries.
In addition to UAVs, munitions manufactured by Roketsan such as MAM-L, MAM-C, MAM-T and İHA-230 are also achieving export successes.
The AKINCI UAV contract that BAYKAR recently signed with Saudi Arabia sparked rumours, with a price tag of $3.1 billion. AKINCI UAV exports to Saudi Arabia broke records as the industry's largest single-item export agreement.
