Türkiye's Fidan: Peace between Azerbaijan, Armenia is within reach
Türkiye's Foreign Minister, Hakan Fidan, has expressed optimism about achieving peace between Azerbaijan and Armenia.
Speaking during discussions on the 2025 budget at the Grand National Assembly of Türkiye, Fidan remarked that, there is a glimmer of hope for peace in the South Caucasus, Caliber.Az reports via local media.
“Securing peace will foster regional development and create new opportunities. Türkiye supports all efforts in this process. Our country advocates for bilateral negotiations between the parties, free from intermediaries.”
The minister also addressed the situation in Georgia, expressing regret over recent events in the country. He warned that interference by third parties could further complicate the situation.
Meanwhile, Erkin Gadirli, a member of Azerbaijan’s Milli Majlis (Parliament) and a legal expert, believes that the resolution of the peace treaty between Azerbaijan and Armenia hinges on Armenia adopting a new constitution.
Gadirli shared his views during a panel discussion titled "Obstacles to a Peace Agreement in the Armenian Constitution and Laws", part of the conference "The Main Obstacles to the Peace Agreement between Azerbaijan and Armenia".
In his address, Gadirli noted that Armenia’s constitution could be amended through a parliamentary referendum. He raised concerns, however, over the stance of Armenia's Constitutional Court, which argues that the preamble of the constitution cannot be altered. Gadirli clarified:
"While the entire preamble is not the issue, there is one particular sentence that must be changed to pave the way for peace."
