Türkiye vows full support for Syria’s stability amid YPG noncompliance PHOTO
The deadline for signing an agreement between the Syrian government and the U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (a terrorist organisation, PKK/YPG) is set to expire in two and a half months.
According to Türkiye Gazetesi, however, the YPG refuses to lay down arms and integrate into the Syrian army.
With counterterrorism measures by the Syrian government expected after the deadline at the end of the year, Ankara is scheduled to host Syrian Foreign Minister Assad Hassan al-Shaibani tomorrow.
Discussions will expectedly focus on the progress made in integrating the YPG, the fight against terrorism, particularly ISIS, Israel's attacks on Syria, the Druze issue, and the elections held this weekend.
Ankara, remaining sensitive to Syria’s territorial integrity and sovereignty, will continue to use its influence to help establish stability in the country. Emphasising the need to remove elements that pose a threat to Syria’s physical integrity and risk division, Ankara insists that the People’s Defense Units (YPG) must now clearly state their intentions and comply with the agreement reached with Damascus.
Ankara also stresses that the issue of the Druze community should be resolved positively and on a mutually acceptable basis, without jeopardising the country’s territorial integrity.
Meanwhile, U.S. Ambassador to Ankara Tom Barrack and U.S. Central Command Commander Admiral Brad Cooper met with Ferhad Abdi Shahin, the leader of the terrorist organisation PKK/YPG in Syria.

In a post on X, Barrack wrote that the purpose of the visit is to advance an initiative that will allow all Syrians to unite: “Forward momentum for POTUS’s vision of 'give Syria a chance' by allowing Syrians to unite with all Syrians in a renewed effort for cooperative peace and prosperity.”
Sources from Türkiye’s Ministry of National Defence state that the failure of the terrorist organisation PKK/YPG to fulfil its obligations to disarm and integrate into the Syrian state poses a threat to Syria’s unity and territorial integrity, as well as to Türkiye’s national security.
The sources emphasised Türkiye’s sensitivity to the issue, noting that it will not tolerate actions by the PKK/YPG that sabotage this process and that it will continue its fight against terrorism decisively, in cooperation with the Damascus government.
Any actions or rhetoric undermining Syria’s political unity and territorial integrity must stop, and Türkiye will provide Syria with all necessary support both to safeguard its own security and to promote stability in Syria whenever needed, the newspaper writes.
