Turkmen ex-president due in Tehran on May 30
Chairman of the People's Council of Turkmenistan Gurbanguly Berdimuhamedow is scheduled to visit Iran on May 30, according to director of Iranian Presidency's Office for public relations.
Mehdi Rahimi said on Sunday that Berdimuhamedow will visit Iran on May 30, IRNA reports.
Rahimi said major heads of state and foreign officials are slated to visit Iran in coming weeks and months.
That comes as Turkmenistan's President Serdar Berdimuhamedow, Gurbanguly's son, had visited Iran in June 2022.
President Ebrahim Raisi invited Berdimuhamedow to Iran in his congratulatory message on the occasion of the Constitution Day and the State Flag of Turkmenistan, celebrated on May 18, TASS reports.
"I express my sincere gratitude for the congratulatory message and the invitation to visit the Islamic Republic of Iran. I accept your invitation with great gratitude and am convinced that the upcoming visit will be an important step towards strengthening friendship and multifaceted partnership between Turkmenistan and the Islamic Republic of Iran," Berdimuhamedow wrote in response.
Raisi expressed gratitude to the Chairman of the People's Council for the firm position and will shown by Turkmenistan in the comprehensive expansion of cooperation between the two countries in international and bilateral formats.
"Mainly in transit, in the water and energy sectors, an example of which is the recent increase in the volume of gas transit through the Islamic Republic of Iran. I am looking forward to your upcoming visit to the Islamic Republic of Iran in the near future, during which I hope to discuss various vectors of cooperation in the political, economic and cultural spheres at a meeting in Tehran," the Iranian president wrote.
Berdimuhamedow also noted the current high level of openness and mutual understanding between Ashgabat and Tehran, the proximity of positions on key issues on the international agenda.
"Emphasising the intensive expansion and substantial new content of the Turkmen-Iranian dialogue in all priority areas, I fully share your opinion that there are great opportunities for further expansion and bringing our partnership to a higher level," he concluded.
