Two Uzbek nationals detained in Türkiye over killing of compatriot

26 January 2026 09:39

Turkish law enforcement authorities have detained two Uzbek nationals suspected of involvement in the killing of an Uzbek citizen in Istanbul, the Consulate General of Uzbekistan has confirmed.

According to the diplomatic mission, the suspects were apprehended while attempting to leave Türkiye. They had planned to fly to Georgia but were detained at the airport following prompt action by local law enforcement agencies. Both detainees are citizens of Uzbekistan and were reportedly employed as labourers at construction sites in Istanbul.

The investigation was launched on January 24, 2026, after the body of a woman was found in a rubbish container in Istanbul’s Şişli district. Turkish authorities later confirmed the victim’s identity as Durdona Khakimova, an Uzbek national.

Media reports indicate that the main suspect is believed to be the victim’s partner, Dilshod Turdimurotov. He is accused of carrying out the killing with the alleged assistance of his friend, Gofurjon Kamalkhodaev, who is suspected of helping to conceal evidence.

The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul stated that it is closely monitoring the case and is cooperating with the Istanbul prosecutor’s office and forensic authorities. Diplomatic representatives have also established contact with the victim’s family and are providing consular and legal assistance.

The Uzbek diplomatic mission expressed condolences to the victim’s relatives and said it would continue to inform the public as the investigation progresses.
