A total of 100,305 students in Azerbaijan receive STEM education during the academic year 2022-2023, with 47 per cent or 46,782 students being girls.
The statement came from UN Resident Coordinator in Azerbaijan Vladanka Andreeva on the occasion of International Women's Day – March 8, Report informs.
According to her, this is a rather encouraging figure as compared to other countries.
Andreeva said the UN is working with relevant state agencies in Azerbaijan to encourage girls to receive STEM education and enhance their digital knowledge and skills.
“Involving women and girls in technology will greatly enhance the potential for innovations that meet their needs and promote gender equality. The UN Office in Azerbaijan will continue to work with partners to ensure women and girls have access to technology and digital education, and to create a more inclusive and equal future.”
"In Azerbaijan, I met and was inspired by the work of many talented young women and girls active in government, society, academia and the private sector. They contribute significantly to economic growth, social development and environmental sustainability," Andreeva added.
