Uzbekistan aims to boost cargo transit through Azerbaijan
Deputy Director of the Institute for Strategic and Regional Studies under the President of Uzbekistan Bakhtiyor Mustafayev has said that Uzbekistan plans to increase cargo transportation through Azerbaijan to 1 million tons.
He made these comments during the online conference titled "Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan: New Prospects for Mutually Beneficial Cooperation", Caliber.Az reports.
"The global trend towards diversifying transport routes is enhancing Azerbaijan's role as a key link between Central Asia and Europe. Uzbekistan is actively expanding its cargo transit through Azerbaijani infrastructure, and we aim to reach a volume of 1 million tons by the end of the year," Mustafayev stated.
Additionally, Mustafayev mentioned that Uzbekistan's initiative to develop transport connectivity, including the Uzbekistan-Kyrgyzstan-China railway route, has the potential to connect Azerbaijan with China and the South Asian region.
"We welcome your country’s interest in participating in this project," he emphasised.
The deputy director also noted that the countries have significant potential to expand cooperation in both traditional and renewable energy sectors, particularly in the construction of solar power plants. "In the long term, this will enhance our countries' export capabilities, which is crucial given the global trend towards a transition to renewable energy sources," Mustafayev added.
