Uzbekistan streamlines traffic with new lanes on Kazakh border
Uzbekistan will introduce “green” and “red” lanes for vehicles at the Gisht-Kuprik checkpoint on the Uzbek–Kazakh border, streamlining passenger and cargo flow.
The checkpoint will expand after reconstruction to include fast and slow lanes for passenger cars, and the first Z-portal scanning system in Central Asia has been installed at the site, Caliber.Az reports, citing the press service of Uzbekistan’s Customs Committee.
“This facility, covering nine hectares, will now become not just a digital but an intelligent customs post,” the committee said.
To prevent queues, the road at the post has been widened to 16 lanes. Once opened, scheduled for early 2026, it will be able to handle more than 1,500 vehicles and 50,000 passengers per day.
Gisht-Kuprik is a border customs checkpoint located on Uzbekistan’s frontier with Kazakhstan (with the Zhibek Zholy checkpoint on the Kazakh side).
The post has been closed for reconstruction since February 5, 2025, with renovation work underway since 2022.
