Uzbekistan to acquire Airbus drones, becoming Central Asia’s first operator
Uzbekistan is set to become the first country in Central Asia to operate Airbus’ cutting-edge unmanned system, the Flexrotor. A contract for the supply of the system has been signed with the state-owned enterprise Uztechtrade, which oversees the import of military and dual-use technologies.
The Flexrotor represents Airbus’ latest innovation in tactical vertical takeoff and landing (VTOL) unmanned aerial systems, Caliber.Az reports, citing Uzbek media.
Weighing just 25 kilograms, the compact drone is capable of conducting reconnaissance, surveillance, target designation, and data-gathering operations. It can remain airborne for an impressive 12 to 14 hours without interruption.
Designed for versatility in the field, the Flexrotor can autonomously take off and land in a footprint as small as 3.7 by 3.7 metres, whether on land or water. This capability makes it particularly suitable for expeditionary and remote operations.
Uzbekistan plans to deploy the Flexrotor in “manned–unmanned teaming” operations, integrating the drone with helicopters to enhance situational awareness and overall mission effectiveness. This collaboration marks a significant step forward in modernizing the country’s aerial reconnaissance and tactical capabilities.
