Vice-president: Türkiye to continue supporting Azerbaijan amid ongoing challenges
Türkiye reaffirmed its steadfast support for Azerbaijan, highlighting the strong brotherhood and unity between the two countries, Turkish Vice-President Cevdet Yılmaz said at an event marking Azerbaijan’s Independence Day at the Beştepe Congress Centre.
Yılmaz emphasised Türkiye’s continued backing of Azerbaijan, which stood by Türkiye during the difficult period following the February 6, 2023, earthquake, as well as in the fight against terrorism and other challenges, Caliber.Az reports per local media.
“The brotherhood and unity of spirit between Azerbaijan and Türkiye is unbreakable and will endure,” Yılmaz stated. He also noted that Azerbaijan’s Independence Day is a source of pride across the Turkic world.
The Vice-President credited the legacy of Azerbaijan’s national leader, Heydar Aliyev and the decisive leadership of President Ilham Aliyev for positioning the country as an influential and respected regional player.
He highlighted the strong relationship between Türkiye’s President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and President Aliyev as a driver of high-level dialogue and strategic partnership.
The June 15, 2021, Shusha Declaration, Yılmaz said, marked a new milestone in bilateral relations, with the motto “Two States, One Nation” increasingly reinforced through institutional cooperation.
Yılmaz further noted ambitious joint projects underway through the intergovernmental commission on economic cooperation, co-chaired by Azerbaijan’s Prime Minister Ali Asadov. The commission held its 11th session last year.
“In 2024, bilateral trade reached approximately 8 billion US dollars. We are determined to achieve our goal of increasing this figure to 15 billion dollars,” he added.
