"We are coming to final conclusion of 200-year-old conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan" Azerbaijani presidential aide tells BBC
In an interview with BBC, Assistant to the President of Azerbaijan, and Head of the Foreign Policy Department of the Presidential Administration Hikmet Hajiyev commented on the situation in the Garabagh region.
"We are really sorry that a large part of the civilian population (of the Garabagh region of Azerbaijan - Ed.) decided to leave. And, of course, in this case, we respect the freedom of choice and freedom of movement. The majority of the population on the ground feels ethnic hatred towards Azerbaijanis. They say: I cannot live under the flag of Azerbaijan," Hajiyev said, Caliber.Az reports.
When asked whether this is a kind of end to the 30-year history of the conflict, Hajiyev replied as follows: "We hope it is. We have finally come to the final conclusion of the 200-year conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan. Azerbaijan wants peace".
