The Turkish Foreign Ministry and the ruling Justice and Development Party have condemned a deadly armed attack on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran on January 27.
"We condemn the armed attack on the Azerbaijani Embassy in Tehran this morning," Report informs, citing a statement of the ministry.
The statement notes that Türkiye, which has survived such attacks, understands and shares the pain of the Azerbaijani people.
"It is extremely important that the person responsible for this low act is immediately detected and brought to justice, and it is also important to take all necessary measures to avoid a repeat. Fraternal Azerbaijan will never be alone. We will continue to support Azerbaijan," the statement says.
Meanwhile, the Turkish Justice and Development Party (AK Parti) also strongly condemn the "treacherous attack".
The deputy chairman, Numan Kurtulmus, made the remarks on Twitter, Report informs.
He expressed condolences to the Azerbaijani people in connection with the death of the head of the embassy security service.
"We have always been close to Azerbaijan, guided by the principle of 'One nation, two states'. On the morning of January 27, an armed attack took place on the Azerbaijani embassy in Iran. The attacker broke into the security post of the diplomatic mission and killed the head of the security service with a Kalashnikov automatic weapon. Two embassy security officers were also injured while repelling the attack. Their condition is satisfactory. The Azerbaijani side is currently conducting an urgent investigation," he said.
Turkish Parliament Speaker Mustafa Shentop also condemned the attack and conveyed his condolences to Azerbaijani counterpart Sahiba Gafarova.
The head of the Azerbaijani embassy's security officer, Orkhan Asgarov, was killed and two others were injured in an armed attack on the embassy building on January 27. According to Iran's law enforcement agencies, "family problems" stand behind the attack on the embassy, according to a preliminary investigation. Information available to Caliber.Az from reliable sources does not rule out the role of the Iranian security service in the attack.
